HOLLAND — This week, the Holland Farmers Market launched its “Kids Produce Program,” which hands out $1 vouchers for children to buy fresh produce at the market.
The goal of the program is to involve kids in making healthy food choices, the farmers market said.
Children ages 12 and younger and their parents or guardians can visit the Higher Health Chiropractic table Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to pick up a Kids Produce Program voucher.
The vouchers have a $1 value which can be spent on a fruit or vegetable of the child’s choice at any produce vendor at the farmers market.
Farmers market vendors will be reimbursed by Higher Health Chiropractic, the program’s sponsor, for each coupon they collect.
Because funds are limited, the market is asking families to limit themselves to one coupon per child for the 2021 season.
“Higher Health Chiropractic is excited to partner with the Holland Farmers Market for the Kids Produce Program,” said Dr. Andrew White, owner and chief practitioner at Higher Health Chiropractic. “At Higher Health, we place a significant emphasis on pediatrics and family care.
“Our goal is to help raise a healthy generation of kids in our community. To accomplish this, it begins with education and experiences. We are proud of this program as it will educate children on where food comes from while giving them the experience of purchasing their food.”
